Project Summary

This CAREER proposal sought funds to support the PIs educational and research efforts in the area of his research focus. In particular, the PI is keenly interested in a collection of research projects all of which addresses the problem of individuals or groups learning to be more productive in an environment containing other individuals and groups. The PI and his students are working to identify and exploit diverse learning opportunities that can be exploited by autonomous agents to further individual and group goals. The gamut of multiagent learning scenarios that is covered range from completely cooperative groups, where the sole goal of each individual is to serve group interests, to purely competitive situations, where individuals learn to exploit the weaknesses of competitors. Whereas some of this work concerns individualistic learning schemes, where each agent learns by itself, other efforts evaluate shared learning approaches, where two or more agents actively participate in learning about each other. To enable shared learning in cooperative groups a group infrastructure is necessary.
